Thank You Municipal Clerks!

The Wisconsin Disability Vote Coalition (WDVC) is joining with other organizations to celebrate Municipal Clerks Week, May 2-8, 2021 and to honor our municipal clerks. The 52nd Annual Municipal Clerks Week recognizes the essential role Municipal Clerks play in local government, and administering our elections.

We invited community members to recognize their municipal clerk and received 76 responses recognizing the outstanding work of 44 municipal clerks across Wisconsin. These clerks were recognized for working to make the voting process welcoming and inclusive. We applaud their hard work to reduce barriers for voters. You can view their nominations on our website and our Facebook page.

Here’s how you can celebrate your Municipal Clerk:
  1. Send a thank you email or letter to your Municipal Clerk. View their name and contact information on the My Vote Wisconsin website, “My Voter Info”
  2. Take a selfie photo with a Thank You message to your local clerk and post it on Facebook. Tag the Wisconsin Disability Vote Coalition in your post.
  3. Share our Facebook posts and our website nomination page widely on social media.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Municipal Clerks Week. Municipal Clerks are so important in making voting accessible and positive for every voter. Thank you for letting them know what a difference they make to Wisconsin voters!

Policy Update: Voting Bills Advance in the State Legislature
The state legislature is considering some bills that may make it more difficult for some people with disabilities and older adults to vote. Some of the bills may be voted on by the full Legislature the week of May 10th.

The bills would:
  • Create new barriers to voting for many voters with a disability and older adults.
  • Make it more difficult for friends and neighbors to assist you with returning an absentee ballot.
  • Restrict workers in nursing homes and group homes from offering residents assistance with voting.
  • Threaten volunteers, clerks, and others with prosecution for violating the new barriers.
To learn more about the bills:
If these issues are important to you, tell your legislators about your concerns regarding these bills. Let them know how the voting bills will impact you and will make it harder for many Wisconsinites with disabilities and older adults to vote.

To find contact information for your legislators, you can call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-362-9472 or enter your home address in the “Who Are My Legislators?” box on the Wisconsin State Legislature Home Page
